Julie Goodnight is an internationally respected trainer and clinician with experience in many types of training. She grew up riding ponies and horses on an Orlando farm and competed in hunter jumpers throughout her youth. Julie counts horses among her earliest friends; she spent many summer days hanging out in the horse pasture and studying how the horses moved and interacted. During her college days in New Mexico, Julie earned extra money by warming up Thoroughbreds on the race track. The cowgirl felt at home in the west and soon hit the trails and studying Western disciplines. Always the adventurer, she began leading riders through the Rocky Mountains. As a natural teacher, Julie decided to make horses her life's work-and to teach people how to work with horses safely and with kindness. Showing her dedication to teaching and safety, Julie earned her Master Instructor and Clinician ranking with the Certified Horsemanship Association (the association she continues to represent as International Spokesperson).
Now, Julie teaches riders how to be their horse's leader and to excel in whichever equestrian sport they choose. Her varied background and training in dressage, jumping, racing, reining, colt-starting, cutting, and wilderness riding make her a well rounded instructor. She teaches horse owners around the world how to establish great relationships with their horses through her Clinic Tour, Horse Master with Julie Goodnight television show, expo appearances and her many how-to DVDs.
Julie is now best known for her award-winning television show airing weekly on RFD-TV—Horse Master with Julie Goodnight. Through the show, Julie hopes to help all riders master their equestrian dreams and skills. As "The Horse Master," Julie shares the wisdom she's gained by reaching her master-level CHA status and encourages all horse people to become the leaders/masters their horses want and deserve. Natural horsemanship is founded on understanding horse behavior and the idea that horses look for leadership, direction and assurance that they're safe and acting appropriately. Julie strives to teach you how to master that ideal and emphasizes the importance of life-long learning.
On television and in her clinics, Julie has an upbeat and logical style of teaching. She has a unique ability to bridge natural horsemanship techniques with the principles of classical riding. Her training and teaching techniques are frequent features of The Trail Rider, America's Horse, Horse & Rider, Perfect Horse, Certified Horsemanship Association's The Instructor and many other excellent equine publications and websites.
Julie Goodnight resides near Salida, Colorado, at her private horse ranch with her husband, Rich Moorhead--an avid National Versatility Ranch Horse competitor and the CEO of Monarch Mountain ski resort.

Richard Shrake has the talent to lead students through step by step instruction to work with all disciplines and levels of ability. Mitch and JoLinn Hoover each have over 35 years experience training and coaching in the horse industry, including everything from ranching and running cattle in some of the most treacherous Northwest terrain to championships in the performance arena--all from the back of the seasoned all-around horses produced through their own training programs. It's this practical experience, combined with their dedication to helping and encouraging other rider's that is the foundation cornerstone of their horse training and rider coaching programs.
Their lifetime Championship awards span a variety of disciplines, including western & English, reining, cattle and stock dog events, along with mountain trail, versatility and cowboy challenges . Their record setting performances include the highest scoring run in the history of the National Mountain Trail Championship and the most consecutive Open championships at same show.
The past few years the Hoover's focused on developing student performance through teaching and coaching. As a result they succeeded beyond measure their goal of seeing the MJ Rising H Ranch Team Hoover students fill the top five in Trail Horse and cattle event competitions throughout the NW.
The Hoovers have an uncanny knack for instilling confidence in both horse and rider through their eclectic teaching style that blends compassion with respect--knowledge sprinkled with humor. Preferring to be called teachers rather than clinicians, they study learning styles of people and horses and have developed a multitude of teaching tools to fit individual situations. Drawing on each other they present their students and horses with a combination of knowledge targeting all ages and disciplines of riders as well as all breeds of horses. Riders with fear issues and performance anxiety will find solace and success in the Hoover program. With their down-to-earth instructing style, quick sense of humor, and "if we can do it, you can do it" attitude, their clinic series will leave you equipped with tools to tackle your next Trail Horse competition or recreational trail ride with confidence and ease.

Horses have been a part of Joyce's life for forty years. Twenty-five of those years have been spent training and competing on one level or another. She has worked with problem horses who have pushed their owners around, unseated them, been disrespectful, and displayed no accountability for their actions. She has dealt with horses that did not trust people and that people did not trust.

Clown Dominum is the nickname that Ed White gives his rodeo barrel. White, who will be here for this years Horse Affairs, laughs when asked how his barrel got its name, "it is also where I get sent when I get in trouble at home, most men get sent to the dog house". Then he says "just kidding, actually I will be married 25 years this year to my wife Laurie, and that is how many years I have been a professional rodeo clown".
White and his wife Laurie have three daughters Katie, Kylee and Brandie who usually travel the circuit with him any chance they get. White, like many other bull fighters in the industry finish off their rodeo careers by retiring from cowboy protection to comedy. This profession, is known as a Rodeo Clown. "My job is to entertain the crowd and also provide a safe haven for the cowboys that may have no other place to hide when being chased by an angry bull". White admits that it is his job to make it appear to be fun and games when he is in the arena, it does get very rough at times. He recalls the time when he was performing in his barrel at the Payette Rodeo and was charged by an angry bull. "The bull saw me in the barrel and I knew by his speed and attitude this wasn't going to be good". White laughs and says "the next thing I knew, I was upside down and fortunately still in my barrel". "It felt like I was in a car wreck, and my barrel looked like it had been in one as well".
When you talk to Ed White you can hear story after story just like this one. White admits "you see a lot to scary and sometimes very funny things when you have been in this business as long as I have". White who is a senior on the circuit has been selected multiple times as the Barrelman of the Year in the Intermountain Rodeo association and once by the Idaho Cowboy's Association. "I rodeo with the sons and daughters of the people I use to rodeo with". When he reflects back on his career, he says one of the most positive changes in rodeo that he has seen is that the riders are wearing the protective vests. "It is a very rough sport and anything we can do to protect the rider and the animal is a positive move for the sport of rodeo". White says, the best part of his job in the rodeo arena is entertaining the crowd. "It is great to see the smiles on peoples faces when you tickle their funny bone". White, who has a great sense of humor himself, smiles and says "that's my job".
Come to this years Horse Affairs and visit with Ed White and hear some of his great stories. He will also give your kids a ride in a real "clown dominium" rodeo clown barrel so they can see what it feels like to be out in a rodeo arena. Ed will also be entertaining the crowd throughout the day and during our evening show as well. This year's show will be entertaining for the entire family.
